What would the aunties say?: a brown girl’s guide to being yourself and living your best life
South Asian Aunties certainly don’t hold back when expressing their unwanted opinions about when you should get married, your mental health or the gender of your child. These Aunties come in a range of spice levels Mild, Spicy and Hot and are famously known for their meddling and judgemental ways, thriving on the latest community gossip.
Based on my podcast of the same name, What Would the Aunties Say? is a funny and informative life guide for young women of South Asian heritage growing up in a very different world to our parents and older relatives.
In this book, I’ll guide you through real-life stories and dilemmas, also known as ‘Brown Girl Problems’, with humour and warmth. have created a judgement-free space to explore taboo topics in South Asian culture, including sex, interracial relationships and colourism. Weaving in my personal journey, I encourage brown girls worldwide to go against the grain, educate the older generations, dismantle stereotypes and shake up some of the old-school Auntie attitudes.
Packed full of tongue-in-cheek illustrations throughout, What Would the Aunties Say? will help you to navigate complex family situations and be your true self.
